This space in the Na Bolom house contains a collection of more than 9,000 books in archaeology, anthropology and history, mainly about the Maya culture. This library at one time was the leading source library of the Maya culture in the state. Today it is a valuable historical reference center for research. The library is named after the great defender of indigenous rights in America and the bishop of the city, Fray Bartolomé.
This library was created by Frans Blom at the beginning of the 1960s through his applying for book donations from his friends, universities, institutes and researchers, therefor we started creating this rich and relevant bibliographic material that can be use by students and researchers.
Fortunately we have a collection of rare books, some published in the 19 th century, original manuscripts that are very importat materials for researchers.
At the present, the library continues to receive private donations from the likes of universities and cultural institutions, as well as publications of the INEGI.
The library itself serves as a fine space to display popular art as well as a collection of religious art.
