GERTRUDE DUBY PHOTOGRAPH ARCHIVES

--The Gertrude Duby Regional Photograph Archives-

The photograph archives forms an extraordinary valuable ethnographic resource. The photo archives contains the negatives and prints of more than fifty-five thousand images, the majority taken by our founder Gertrude Duby. Frans Blom as well as other well-known photographers, such as Barry Norris and Antonio Turok, have also contributed their work to the photo archives.

In several cases, this visual collection contains the only living documents available on the rituals and customs of many indigenous groups in Chiapas , some groups which have disappeared or changed throughout time. This historical file includes Gertrude's complete photograph collection from 1942 to 1987. The file also includes her 16mm films of documentaries and expeditions made by Frans which now with the support of the Filmoteca of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), have been formatted to VHS.
